High-level international conference: “Slovenia and Latvia: Spacebound”

On June 12, in cooperation with the Centre for European Perspective (CEP), the Latvian Institute of International Affairs (LIIA) held an international conference: “Slovenia and Latvia: Spacebound”. During the event, we discussed the future geopolitical realities and charting prospects of the digital economy.

Opening remarks:

  • Tine Šušteršič, Project Manager of the Centre for European Perspective (CEP).
  • Dr. Kārlis Bukovskis, Director of the Latvian Institute of International Affairs (LIIA).

First panel: Presidential Reflections: Future Geopolitical Realities, will feature former Slovenian President H.E. Borut Pahor (online) and former Latvian President H.E. Valdis Zatlers's reflections on current geopolitical developments. Moderator: Dr. Karlis Bukovskis, Director of the Latvian Institute of International Affairs.

Speakers will discuss the current state of security and geopolitical challenges in the region, as well as opportunities for strategic partnership. The panel will address topics such as regional tensions, military cooperation, and the future role of the East and the United States in shaping security dynamics, given the war in Ukraine.

Second panel: Charting Prospects of the Digital Economy, will explore the digital dimension of the strategic partnership within the European Union (EU), address the potential for collaboration in areas such as digital innovation, and explore the development of emerging technologies and future digital transformation.

  • Indra Sāmīte, Executive Board Member of LIKTA, Board Member of Tilde, Former Minister of Finance of the Republic of Latvia.

  • Juris Pūce, Chairperson of the Latvian Development, Former Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of Latvia.

  • Ieva Siliņa, Advisor to the Minister of Economy on issues of innovation and digitization.

Moderator: Morten Hansen, Head of Economics Department of Stockholm School of Economics.
