Risks and Lessons for Small Democracies: Hybrid Threats in Baltics and Taiwan

In cooperation with the Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia, the Latvian Institute of International Affairs held a public discussion: “Risks and Lessons for Small Democracies: Hybrid Threats in Baltics and Taiwan.” December 18, online. 

During the discussion, we discussed the presence of hybrid threats in the Baltics and Taiwan, the impact on security, and the sustainability of small democracies.

Opening remarks:

Prof. Dr. Andris Sprūds, Director of the Latvian Institute of International Affairs, Professor and Dean at Riga Stradiņš University.

Keynote speech:

Mr. Ainars Latkovskis, Member of Parliament of the Republic of Latvia and Head of the Strategic Communication Subcommittee of the Defense, Home Affairs, and Anti-Corruption Commission.

• Michael Cole, Senior Fellow at Macdonald-Laurier Institute, Global Taiwan Institute and Taiwan Studies Programme at University of Nottingham, UK;

• Vida Macikenaite, Assistant Professor at the International University of Japan.
