The 2020 mass protests in Belarus triggered a significant wave of civic activism throughout the country. This movement was met with intense repression, targeting both established civil society organizations and newly engaged activists. As a result, many were arrested or forced to flee the country. In the upcoming event, we will discuss the current state of Belarusian civil society, the ongoing repression it faces, the role of Western support, and the challenges that lie ahead. These are the pressing questions that our distinguished panel will explore.

Panelists:

  • Dr. Sofie Bedford, Associate Professor in Political Science and an Affiliated Researcher at the Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies (IRES) at Uppsala University;
  • Dr. Tatsiana Chulitskaya, Senior Researcher at the Vilnius University Institute of International Relations and Political Science; Fellow Researcher at Manchester Metropolitan University;
  • Dr. Lizaveta Dubinka - Hushcha, Regional Director of the Danish Cultural Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania; Chair of the Board of the Danish-Belarusian Culture Society "Beladania".

A Zoom link for the webinar will be sent one day before the event.
